PDF Viewer Updates
Kivo has implemented a new PDF Viewer to replace embedded Adobe Acrobat. The new viewer better handles font rendering and correctly displays bookmarks available in PDFs. This change is automatically available to organizations that had previously enabled Adobe Acrobat. For customers that didn't have Acrobat enabled the new viewer is disabled until you are ready to update.
Users with Reader permissions will continue to see PDF documents the secure document viewer that prevents downloading or printing documents.
PDF Redaction
To support EU CTIS requirements, Kivo now supports redacting PDFs directly in Kivo. Redaction can be performed on both text and image-based PDFs. To redact a document click on the version action menu and select Redact PDF
This will open the PDF in a new Window and display the redaction interface. Draw boxes to cover any content that needs redacted and then click the Redact All button and then the Save icon in the top right corner.
Redacted documents will display an additional icon in the version PDF column indicating there is a redaction available:
Redacted files can be added to submissions in Submission Builder. The Redaction feature is disabled by default. To enable this feature, please contact Support.
Unblinded Documents
As part of our eTMF product, Kivo now supports adding unblinded documents.Users can be granted the ability to view unblinded documents at a folder level. When a new document is uploaded a user with unblinded permissions will be presented with the option to mark a document as unblinded. Unblinded documents have a red border to indicate unblinded status and appear in the folder view as having a padlock on the file icon.
Users that do not have the ability to see unblinded data will not be able to see the document, even if they have permissions on the folder. Similarly, an unblinded document cannot be collaborated on, reviewed, or approved by users that do not have unblinded permission in that location.
Usability Improvements
Improved version view
Each row in the version table can now be expanded to show file names and file size for each file associated with a document version. This includes redacted files.
Additional file options in submission builder
The UI has changed slightly in Submission Builder to select file type. The Sourece/PDF switch has been replaced with a drop down to select the version of the file you want to include as well as if you want to include Source, PDF, or Redaction into the submission.
Assigned to me
The home page now shows documents assigned to you as part of the widget that displays Pinned files and folders. Although primarily used as part of the eTMF product, documents can be assigned to other users in the Current Version Card and they will appear on their home page.
A full list of changes will be loaded into your Validation folder in Kivo. Look for the Change Control documentation for release Q1.2023.3.
